REIGNING KING OF JAZZ SAXOPHONE
Born and raised in Leimert Park, Los Angeles, Kamasi Washington grew up in the midst of what he calls "the center of African-American art in Los Angeles". He began playing drums at the age of 3 and learned the clarinet at the age of 9. When he was 13, he began to discover the many wonders of jazz music for himself. Kamasi's curiosity about his father's saxophone led him to learn and perfect the art of the instrument.
The multi-instrumentalist, composer and bandleader has released three works to date. With these he has received Emmy and Grammy nominations, toured the world and collaborated with artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Florence + the Machine and Herbie Hancock.
