Maya Hawke is a musician, songwriter, actress and producer. On her previously released albums, Moss (2022) and Blush (2020), she already showed her natural talent for songwriting and storytelling as well as a flair for eye-catching visuals with her self-designed album covers. “Thérèse”, Moss' first single, impressed with its captivating Brady Corbet-directed music video and reached millions of streams. Maya and her band are celebrated by critics and fans alike and rewarded with sold-out shows in the USA and Europe.
On May 31, 2024, Maya released her third album, Chaos Angel, which takes the raw, honest songwriting she's known for to a deeper and bolder level. It's both her most sonically ambitious and thematically nuanced collection and feels like a new peak. Throughout the 10 songs, Hawke describes upheavals, revelations, weaknesses and broken promises, navigating the patterns we revisit as we strive for growth, stray from the path and find our way back to a deeper understanding of ourselves.
Chaos Angel also documents how Hawke is developing as a musician. She has become more adventurous and ambitious in the studio. Many of the tracks are still characterized by acoustic guitar and Hawke's graceful, narrative vocals, but the musical environment is more complex and lush than ever before. She once again worked with her longtime collaborators Benjamin Lazar Davis and Will Graefe, with Christian Lee Hutson serving as producer.
Maya is also increasingly in demand as an actress and has already starred in the critically acclaimed Netflix series “Stranger Things”. Entertainment Weekly called her the “breakout star”, and Hawke was nominated for an HCA Award for her performance as Robin Buckley. She has also starred in Wes Anderson's “Asteroid City”, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson's “Do Revenge”, “Human Capital” alongside Liev Schreiber and Marisa Tomei, Quentin Tarantino's “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, Amanda Kramer's independent film “Ladyworld”, Gia Coppola's feature film “Mainstream” and most recently Bradley Cooper's Leonard Bernstein drama “Maestro”. She also produced and starred in Ethan Hawke's biographical film about Flannery O'Connor, “Wildcat”, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023.
