Romance in the midst of an approaching Armageddon. Life in a snow globe, a pastoral setting that becomes increasingly precarious and descends into chaos in the blink of an eye. Love as an antique that generations after us will only know from history books. Fontaines D.C.'s fourth album "ROMANCE" questions amorphous concepts of love and relationships, alienation and identity, fantasy and reality - all building on a central statement that Chatten sings about hauntingly and invitingly in the opening track: "Maybe romance is a place".

11 tracks that reflect the ideas that emerged between Grian Chatten (vocals), Carlos O'Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan (bass) and Tom Coll (drums) in the time between the No.1 album "Skinty Fia" and the US tour with the Arctic Monkeys. The album builds on the sonic sensibility the band began experimenting with on "Skinty Fia" and now draws on grunge textures, hip-hop breaks and beats, spherical sounds and contemporary electronic sound elements. The album is inspired by Shygirl and Sega Bodega, as well as old Hollywood soundtracks, Outkast, The Prodigy and A$AP Ferg.

The band shows more confident and mature production skills. The roots of 'ROMANCE' lie in the time they spent apart, experimenting as individuals in Mexico, Spain and L.A., as well as an intense production period alongside producer James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Blur) in a French chateau.

The album represents a provocative sonic and aesthetic era for the Dublin-born, now London-based band.

A summer of international live shows and festivals will introduce fans to their rapidly unfolding universe and ask them too: will you give yourself over completely to the fantasy?

"ROMANCE" will be released on August 23, 2024 via XL Recordings.
