Johnny Marr Returns to Zurich
Johnny Marr began his career as a member of the legendary UK band The Smiths and went on to become one of the most influential songwriters and guitarists in British independent music. On his creative journey, he played a central role in The The, Electronic, Modest Mouse, and The Cribs, and collaborated with names like The Pretenders, Talking Heads, The Avalanches, and composer Hans Zimmer. Together with Zimmer, he worked on the score and soundtrack for the most recent James Bond film No Time To Die, including the Oscar-nominated title track performed by Billie Eilish.
Since launching his solo career in 2013, Marr has released four UK Top 10 studio albums: The Messenger (2013), Playland (2014), Call The Comet (2018), Fever Dreams Pts 1-4 (2022), as well as a career-spanning book, Marr’s Guitars (via Thames & Hudson).
The full scope of this extraordinarily fruitful and creative period is captured in his latest work, Spirit Power: The Best Of Johnny Marr, a major new collection curated by Marr himself. It features songs from his first ten years as a solo artist, a selection of standalone singles, and two brand-new tracks, “Somewhere” and “The Answer.” It’s a body of work that reflects Marr’s boundless energy, his deep musicality, and above all, his love of melody.
